Ravenshill - the fiction
Ravenshill was built in 1071, commissioned by King William I. It will be the site of a bloody family feud that stretches for centuries. It began as only a tower built atop a hill overlooking River North Tyne. It has an expansive view of the surrounding valley and became a strong fortification as a wall was built. Eventually, a great hall was placed beside the tower.
The focus of Snakes & Wolves was originally on the people and the war. But as I wrote the trilogy, this old Norman keep took on a greater significance. I soon realized that Ravenshill is Elisabeth’s drive. It is her home she is trying to save. It is for Ravenshill that she is willing to sell her soul.
But as I wrote and researched, I discovered Ravenshill might be valuable to others. Those others, are kings and queens who fight to retain or gain the throne. Nearly isolated on the border with Scotland, it is a great resting point for an army, whether they are invading from or fleeing into the wilds of Scotland.
If you want to learn more stories about Ravenshill before Elisabeth was born, they are available in the Snakes & Wolves Library. As you might be able to tell, I fell in love with Ravenshill.
